This is my eleventh year teaching at Richland R-1 Schools. I am the Business/Journalism/Computers teacher - I am also the FBLA sponsor, and advisor for The Rebel, our student yearbook. I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on Management from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn.

As you will be able to see from the galleries on this site, I am extremely proud of the work that my students produce and I always strive to prepare them for whatever may lie ahead. In all of my business classes: Accounting, Business Tech, Business Management, Business Law, Multimedia, Desktop Publishing, and Entrepreneurship students are required to create a resume, cover letter, and references and must learn interviewing skills. These are skills and documents that the students will need for the rest of their lives and some will need them, just as soon as they graduate.
Several members of The Rebel yearbook staff at Richland High School were presented with awards from the JEA/NSPA National Fall Convention held in St. Louis in Nov, 2022. Students receiving Superior (highest award given overall) medals were, from back left: Shelby Boyle, General/News Photography; McKenna McBroom, Sports Action Photography; Addyson Williamson, First Year Photography; and Jasmine Qualls, Sports Feature Photography. Receiving an Honorable Mention in Photo Story was Bella Elledge, front left, and receiving an Excellent (highest awarded in the category) was Editor-in-Chief Cassie Bess. In the photography portion of the international contest, 15 total Superiors were awarded, four of which went to Richland students. Each of these students had their work critiqued live by the JEA judges and their work was featured for all the convention goers to see during the awards ceremony on Sunday morning.
The Journalism Education Association (JEA) released the results from their fall national journalism contest last week. Richland R-1 School yearbook students took home four superiors, two excellents, and two honorable mentions. In the photography portion, seven total superiors were presented in the nation and four of them went to Richland students, including in the Portfolio division, to which The Rebel Editor-in-Chief Dacie Ritch took home the top prize of the photography contest, making her the highest-rated high school photographer in the nation. Winners in the contest included, from left: Alex Porter, Excellent in General News Photography; Cassie Bess, Superior in Feature Photography; Katelyn Black, Honorable Mention in Sports Feature Photography; Dacie Ritch, Superior in Portfolio Photography; MaKayla Finch, Honorable Mention in Themed Photography; Jalen Rodgers, Superior in Sports Action Photography; Logan Holman, Excellent in Portrait Photography; and Joe Wyman, Superior in First Year Photography.
Three of Richland’s yearbook staff members received Superior (highest award) Awards for their contest entries in the Journalism Education Association’s recent national contests during the JEA/NSPA National Convention. Ritch received her Superior in Sports Action Photography, Duffie’s was in Photography Portfolio, and Bess’s was for First-Year Photo. In the contest, there were only a total of 10 Superiors given in all the photo categories, with Richland students acquiring three of them. Duffie’s Superior was the only one awarded in the Photography Portfolio category, which is a collective event for a student’s career, making Duffie the highest-rated high school photographer in the nation by the Journalism Education Association.
